When Dick Durbin, then Judiciary Committee Chairman, uttered these words at a U. S. Senate hearing on stand your ground laws in 2013, hopes were high that finally the nation would agree, and that the federal government would initiate steps to push state lawmakers to change stand your ground laws. It hasn’t happened yet. The danger is still real.
Summarizing stand your ground law, Durbin’s opening statement “It appears to me that stand your ground laws are an invitation to confrontation” deserves to be a tweet of the month.

End Stand Your Ground 
The federal government does not want to interfere with state rights to legislate their own laws. The only way that can be done is to take the matter before the Supreme Court as a constitutional rights matter, such as conceal carry being a violation of the rights of those who do not carry, making stand your ground being an unequal playing field. But, the person bringing that matter must have standing, so it could only be someone who was shot and survived, and where the perpetrator was convicted for shooting them.
